7 Day Lipstick Dare – Challenge Accepted

It is the colour of Dorothy’s shimmering shoes, Ariel’s hair and the one that makes for a high impact outfit on most brunettes … that’s right, the colour is red.

{seriously if you have dark hair and DON’T have a statement piece of clothing in red – go get one. It is a must for days when you can’t decide what to put on or want some wow factor}

Anyway I am getting off track. Foxy-lady, style dare extraordinaire Andrea from Fox in Flats announced last week that this week her Style Dares were starting up again and it is been kicked off with a bang! The Red Lipstick Dare is a dare to wear red lipstick every day, for one week. I love these kind of dares as it forces you out of your comfort zones and in this case, takes something that many women would consider an evening or formal occasion look to the brightness of day. I have taken part in Andrea’s month long dares previously and attempted a 7 day hair one but I had never taken the red lips dare. The past year or so I have been loving red lipstick and have worn it often – so I jumped at this dare. Click the link above for more information on the dare + A’s great tips at making red lips last!

redlipstick dareI am house-sitting currently and was surprised to find that I had many of my red products, a couple I had purchased recently to try and one had arrived in a prize pack I won. I am without my trusty Smashbox red lippie, but I have enough for 7 days – different product each day. The main brands I am using are Savvy, Ultra3, Models Prefer and Bite Beauty.

red lipsticksWhat I love about red lipstick is the confidence it can bring you. I also love that there is a shade for anyone – from the lightest of corals to the dark plums and mahogany. You can rock the look as sweet flower child, rock chick, glamour queen, edgy punk. Something for everyone – it shines with attitude, spunk, and is so womanly. Two lips never looked so good 😉

I have been sick, and despite not feeling like going out and been told by my GP to do nothing but rest, drink fluids and watch movies I have stayed determined to complete this dare. So I have. No makeup, hair unwashed and red lips and it has lifted my spirits definitely… as Elizabeth Taylor famously stated, “Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick and pull yourself together…” well Liz I’ve tried, water or Mum’s cure all lemon-honey-vinegar drink in hand, red lips and a blanket on the lounge.

red day oneA touch of Snow White look here at the GP (used Savvy lipgloss ‘Cinderella’ for light berry base + high pigment pencil lipstick ‘pomegranate’ from Bite Beauty on top)

red day twoRed lips watching chick flicks… (Laura Mercier lip liner + Savvy ‘mahogany’ lipstick with a Sephora shimmer gloss in ‘night out’)

red day threeRed lips and my Mum’s home remedy cure all (lipstick is Ultra3 – Cherry Wine)

Three days down, four to go! Hopefully I can kick this sick business to the curb and actually take some good pictures where I am not trying to hide my face! It is good to know though, that even in my pjs, red lips still feels Glam!

Also, it is not too late to join. You don’t have to complete the same 7 days as me – you can start the 7 Day Red Lipstick Dare at any time, to complete it you just need to have red lips for a week straight.. I’d love to hear if you are playing along so I can look out for your pics or posts! All you have to do is upload your shots and use the #redlipstickdarefoxinflats on instagram or twitter.

Embrace the Head Scarf …

Today on the Fox In Flats April Style challenge the prompt was ‘Scarf’, not only have I completed the look and uploaded it but it has prompted me to complete a post I have been meaning to write for awhile on the beauty and ease of headscarves.

A scarf is one of the best accessories – it can be hung around your neck, arm, handbag straps, body or hair. The head scarf is one of my favourite uses. Either covering your whole head or as a headband. In a past post on For the Style Seeking Girl called ‘For those bad hair days’ I detailed ways to extend the ‘life’ of your hair one of these ways included the use of a head scarf. It is something so easy and simple to do. It looks chic, carefree, classy and can be used in casual or dressy looks.

My favourite styles are:

The Band – should look like a thick band around your head with nothing draping. How to: fold or twist the scarf so into a long rectangle and then place on top of head, pull tight (not TOO tight but enough to secure and ensure it won’t fall off) and wrap underneath. Depending on the size of your scarf you can tie then or wrap again and tie in a knot or small bow at the top or side of the head.

Retro Knot and Tie – Women used to do this to hold in their curlers while they did housework, it then become popular for some dances. How to: similar to the band wrap the scarf around the head and either tie a knot or create a bow with the ends of the scarf, looks harder then it actually is. Pile your hair high and messy for a fabulous look – LOVE Rhianna’s curls in the pic below.

The Bandana – pretty self explanatory …just don’t style yourself like a pirate! Let some of your fringe fall out (set the bandana back) or have hair coming out the back. How to: Fold the scarf in half to a triangle, place over heads and tie at nape of neck. For some flair jaunt to the side.

The Long Headband – a head scarf fashioned into a head band partway through or at beginning of hair. Similar to the Band but the rest of the scarf hangs once knotted. How To: twist or fold the scarf and place on head, I like to leave part of my front section of hair and then place the scarf, tie at the side or base of neck and leave the ends of the scarf to drape over your shoulder/back.

Head scarf/Head dress – The traditional use, very classy and perfect for travelling and respecting cultural customs in certain countries and at certain monuments such as temples. How To: wrap it around your head and fasten with a brooch or just by overlapping the fabric.

Other ways that I would love to attempt – and are maybe not so easy?
(I will attempt and let you know how easy or hard these styles are to achieve)

To end, a vintage gallery of some of the most stylish women in history wearing a scarf (see below)! Hope you try some of these out … Let me know if you do! Inspire Me Monday

As I start this week – first up for days of work- my mind is completley on my next holiday away, a European adventure with one of my best friends. I have to admit, it is my main focus at the moment, from paying off my holiday, saving and looking into my wardrobe and mentally styling different outfits from a limited amount of items (trying to take the least amount of clothes possible but still have a variety of outfits over 20 something days)… These thoughts are definitely inspiring me and have crept into a few of the pictures I have picked for this week’s Inspire Me Monday post..

It’s All in the Eyes…
Liz Taylor, her eyes (and brows!) were always made up and fantastic! To make her eyes pop she used violet shadow. A hint? Violet shadow enhances any eye colour, so take the risk and try it! It adds a pop of colour and is a great alternative to a smokey or bronzed eye… My current favourite look!

Wander with me…
There are many things that make the perfect bag to carry throughout the day when you are travelling… a zip section, a partial or full leather strap (chains break if pulled) long enough to fit comfortably across your body plus fit the essentials – wallet, phone, passport, camera, sunglasses, small notebook, water bottle. I thought I had the perfect one for my USA trip but it could have been slightly bigger- didn’t fit a notebook or water bottle. I have found one that appears to have these aspects, for Europe – from ASOS

Hairspiration…
Loving this ‘do! Would love to rock this at an event, like a wedding..
Bit of a brave and sassy hairstyle! The Faux Mohawk!

My Inspired Kitchen
That time of year when the cooking competition shows take over and I am still completely obsessed with My Kitchen Rules… Too simple to be on the show but I love the idea of a glammed up healthy snack. Homemade apple chips – pieces of apple sprinkled lightly with cinnamon.

Inspire My Philosophy…
I love this piece of advice. I plan on doing just that and making the most of my 20s. To experience, explore, take risks, make mistakes, make magic, learn, laugh and LIVE. To really do things before myself, so that when I settle down I can focus on someone else.

Have a good start to the week everyone! This is going to be a big week on For the Style Seeking Girl! Keep in touch with us on our Facebook Page – for daily updates, tips and fun.
